Carry Me There
There’s a lonely girl
Singing this tune
Shared across the Baltic
Lights the North Sea
………….I can hear you
Chorus
I can hear you
Over the ocean
I can hear you
Carry me there x2
Travelled for a long time
Bellows sounding tired
Each note played by night
A story to recall
………Carry me there
Tied by the soil
Beneath our feet
Tied by a language
No one can read
Message in a bottle
I’ll raise a glass to you
Just a lonely girl
Drinking this tune
I can hear you x2
Carry me there x3

The land owns me
The land owns me
I cannot choose
What calls me home
I cannot lose
Sometimes this place feels small inside
Until I raise my eyes
The land is full of bigger thoughts
No emptiness inside
And when the season turns to go
I pull my coat together
And look the mountains in the face
Until the sun it finds me

It Takes Me
The music takes me far away
From shore to city centre
A different sound a face a smile
This journey lasts forever
The searching takes me far away
From single track to centre stage
A busy crowd the lights on me
This song will last forever
This journey lasts forever
This song will last forever

BOBBY DARLING
Oh Bobby Darling
She’s a women amongst men
She’s a guardian of the island
Oh Bobby
Oh Bobby Darling
She walks high amongst the heather
She dresses in Tweed and she’s wrapped in a smile
Oh Bobby
Oh Bobby Darling
You built Tigh an Quay, wading water
Calloused hands make do and mend
Oh Bobby
Small pleasures little treasures
Oh what a silver Darling

Pegging Out

Pegging Out
We met at the green
By the wasing pole lines
Bairns fed, men at sea
We took our turns
One-two-three
Pegging out
Making shapes of our lives
Pegging out
Laughter fades into light
The sky filled our eyes
As we pegged up the clothes
Stretching out, turning over
With the touch of a hand
All sharing the load

Walk on Girl

Walk On Girl (Sheila)
She hadn’t been so far before –
Just up the brae and back –
To where the cow had wandered
bring her home bring her home.
bring her home bring her home.
She stopped to listen to the wind,
But heard a voice instead.
It came and went from far away
Hide and seek Hide and seek
Hide and seek. Hide and seek
The twilight’s coming on now
And the ghosts are on their way,
But if I had the courage I’d
Walk on, girl Walk on
Walk on, girl Walk on,
Walk on, girl Walk on, Walk on, girl Walk Walk on, girl Walk on,
Jan Kilpatrick
(for Sheila Green,(my mum!) whose job, as a girl, was to find the cow and bring her in at night)

Time Before Roads

The Time Before Roads
The copper is bracken
Deep coat of heather
Quartz scattered like petals
The time before roads
The wind breaks its whistle
Stag stops to listen
There’s a breath in each silence
The time before roads
The line of the horizon
There’s a shiver of snow
Folding blankets of peat
The time before Roads
The mountain is a Queen
Stands above the land
Water cuts her like a knife
The time before roads
